MH33: Mesopotamian Mathematics (English)



This lecture introduces the first civilization to create writing and which also had one of the most remarkable arithmetic systems of all time. This is the Mesopotamian culture from 3000 B.C.E. to the fall of the Babylonian cities around 1600 B.C.E., and it stars the Sumerians, Akkadians and Babylonians. Their base 60 or sexagesimal truly floating point system is one of the great achievements of ancient peoples.
